Beware of ‘Healing’ Ministries Like Benny Hinn

benny hinn

I’ve seen some videos of the stuff that goes on at Benny Hinn ‘healing’ events. Him touching or blowing on people, and they fall backwards. Is this biblical? When people had an encounter with the Lord, or an angel of the Lord, people fell on their face, not on their back. Benny Hinn healing type ministries are suspect. Satan masquerades as an angel as light, too, and Satan has some power to deceive. Satan wants anything to come between people receiving salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Let’s look at some verses in scripture about people falling on their face upon an encounter with God or an angel of the Lord.

And there came a fire out from before the Lord, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces — Leviticus 9:24

Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel — Numbers 14:15

And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?  Numbers 16:22

For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground — Judges 13:20

And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God— 1 Kings 18:39

And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid — Matthew 17:6

And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, — Revelation 7:11

And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, — Revelation 11:16

There are absolutely no instances in the bible of people falling on their back during an encounter with God. Benny Hinn is a counterfeit, who is deceiving others into trusting that he can heal, but the devil is working through him, as Satan masquerades as an angel of light, and his ministers are also transformed into the ministers of righteousness.

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works — 2 Corinthians 11:13–14

One of Benny Hinns ministries is the World Healing Fellowship where he actually teaches courses, including Intimacy with God ($75), and How to Pray for the Sick ($50).

If you are a born again believer, you have Jesus’ blood covering all sin, therefore you are seen as righteous by God. It is so very wrong for people masquerading as a servant of Christ to be charging people for wisdom from God, which is found in the Holy Bible.

Benny Hinn says he wants to teach you the secrets of the anointing, and how the Holy Spirit can work in you and through you.

The phrase secrets of the anointing is not found in the Holy Bible.

If by the anointing, Benny Hinn means the Holy Spirit, this is not a gift that can be given by human hand, nor imparted onto others. It is a gift given by God upon trusting in the finished work of Christ for the remission of sins. In 1 John 2:27, it speaks of the anointing as teaching you of all things, and is truth.

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him — 1 John 2:27

Benny Hinn also has a net worth of $42 million. Be careful of these prosperity preachers who are just packaging the law of attraction under the name of God, placing guilt on you to give tithes. In the Old Testament, tithes were crops or cattle. Today, the command is to give cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7). Jesus came to save sinners from the lake of fire, and prayers to God that are opposed to His will are likely not to be heard. The Will of God is for all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth— 1 Timothy 2:4

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance — 2 Peter 3:9

Repentance in the New Testament means a change of mind. We are to change our mind from trusting in our works for salvation, and trust God’s plan of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, if you are praying a prayer that is in line with God’s will, for example, Dear Lord, please help our present leaders. I pray for the salvation of their souls through the Lord Jesus Christ. They are in a position to help others, so Lord please give them your mercy, wisdom, and understanding to make sound decisions that bring you glory. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Benny Hinn says in ‘about us’ and ‘what we believe’ for God’s grace that outward evidence of salvation is a life of righteousness and true holiness. Benny Hinn is still a sinner, I’m not sure if he acknowledge that sin still exists, but it exists nonetheless, just like sin exists in me as a believer. If we could live a life of holiness, why would Jesus have had to die?

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them Ephesians 2:8–10

We are saved by God’s grace. It is His gift to us, not of any human works. Therefore it is important to note that anyone who is telling you to provide evidence of salvation is teaching an accursed gospel.

Catholicism and the Jehovah’s witnesses have good works, but this will not merit eternal life because they have not trusted in Jesus Christ as saviour, and they teach this accursed gospel of Christ plus works to others. His finished work saves a soul from hell.

Benny Hinn is backloading the gospel with the need to prove salvation through a life of righteousness and true holiness, taking their eyes off Christ and back onto self. Christ plus anything else does not glorify God. Jesus came to Earth to complete the work that the Father had given Him. The Corinthian Church were carnal believers, so according to Hinn because they didn’t have any evident holiness, they were not saved. Lot committed incest with both his daughters and got them pregnant, but he was described as a just man.

and delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: — 2 Peter 2:7

Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. — Genesis 19:36

The Corinthian believers trusted God, and Lot trusted God. Even though they lived in sin, they were saved and secure by God. This is why it is only grace that can save a man, and not human works. Beware of teachers like Benny Hinn who get you to subtly examine yourselves for evidence of salvation.

Ephesians 2:10 clearly says that we were created in Christ Jesus unto good works, and we should walk in them, but this must be a decision of the believer, not a command by a pastor or teacher. Jesus came to set us free from the bondage of works, and when we are growing in grace, some days may be filled with joyous servitude to God, while other days may lack the grace because of human emotion. Every day, we all fail because of our sin nature. However, know that you are safe and secure in God’s hand, if you have trusted on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Benny Hinn teaches in ‘about us’ and ‘what we believe’ under “all are entitled to baptism” that all believers are entitled to, and should ardently expect, and earnestly seek, the promise of the father, the baptism in the Holy Ghost and fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is given to all those who trust in Jesus Christ as saviour. It is not an experience, as Hinn teaches. The Holy Spirit seals a believer until the day of redemption.

The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit— John 3:8

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption Ephesians 4:30

In Matthew 3:11 and Luke 3:16, John The Baptist mentions fire, but he is speaking of the judgement toward unbelievers, those who reject Christ. The baptism of fire is not mentioned in scripture, neither is baptism in the Holy Ghost.

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire  Matthew 3:11

John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: — Luke 3:16

In the ‘Baptism of Believers’ on Benny Hinn’s website, he says that a unique work of the Holy Ghost is an evidence of which is the speaking with other tongues etc.

The gift of tongues as it speaks of in the book of Acts, was to teach the gospel to the different nations, so they at they could understand the language.

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilæans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judæa, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God — Acts 2:1–11

Hinn says that deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers.

Paul prayed three times for God to take away his thorn in the flesh. Did God relieve Paul? No.

7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong  2 Corinthians 12:7–10

Sickness is not always delivered, but we should pray for deliverance none the less because if it is God’s will for our life that we be healed, He will heal.

As a born again believer, who has trusted Christ as saviour, I must share the gospel.

  1. Sin separates us from God (Genesis 3).
  2. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
  3. To go to heaven, we must be perfect, and none of us are (Matthew 5:48).
  4. God loves us (John 3:16), but He hates our sin (Psalm 5:4).
  5. God came in the flesh as Jesus Christ (John 10:30), obeyed the law perfectly (Romans 5:19), and died that cruel death on the cross for the sins of every human being who will ever live on this earth (1 John 2:2).
  6. Jesus, who is God Almighty in the flesh, resurrected His body and ascended into Heaven offering his sacrifice for sin for ever (Hebrews 10:12).
  7. The will of God is for us to believe on His son, Jesus Christ, who paid for all sin (John 6:40).
  8. Jesus’ shed blood gives us the remission of sin (Romans 3:25, Hebrews 10:18).
  9. Although God has died for all sin, God chooses to save only those who trust in His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ (John 6:47).

Do you believe that He paid for your sin debt? Will you trust Him today for eternal life? Contrary to popular belief by false teachers who teach that a believer can lose their salvation because of wilful sin etc, this is incorrect. The gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance— Romans 11:29
